What is a computer?
A computer is a programmable machine. The two main features of a computer are:
- Responds to a specific set of instructions in a well-defined.

Generally computers can be sorted by size and power as follows, although there is considerable overlap:
- Personal computer (personal computer): A small computer for one user based on a microprocessor. In addition to the microprocessor, a personal computer has a keyboard for entering data, a monitor to display the information, and a storage device to store data.
- Workstation (workstation): A high-powered computer for one user. A workstation is like a personal computer, but has a more powerful microprocessor and a better quality monitor.
- Minicomputer (Minicomputer): A multi-user computer capable of supporting hundreds of users simultaneously.
- Chassis (mainframe): A powerful multi-user computer capable of supporting thousands of users simultaneously.
- Supercomputer (supercomputer): An extremely fast computer that can perform hundreds of millions of instructions per second.
