The Socom series was undoubtedly one of the main reasons for connecting the PlayStation 2 over the past generation. Despite the modest entrance of multiplayer on the console from Sony, Socom was able to find a niche among the favorites of the users through the merits of four deliveries developed by Zipper Interactive, based on the use made of the clans in a game strongly oriented to the group strategy, creating long-term loyal fans.
PSP has enjoyed on three occasions and Socom Confrontation PlayStation 3 receives its first contact with the special forces of the labor Slant Six, which relieves the original creators in the difficult task of continuing the success of a particularly popular saga United States. Currently their original creators are becoming overwhelmed by MAG (Massive Action Game), an ambitious new project for PS3 multiplayer planned throughout 2009 that will seek to broaden the field to 256 players.
Socom Confrontation is a multiplayer only title. This eliminates the campaign mode present in other deliveries which generally involved a military and political fabric that I needed a fast and efficient by American special forces. And focuses on the most remarkable feature of Socom leveraging large deployment of online connections in PlayStation 3, but perhaps the large selection of this type of multiplayer action games and some weaknesses of Confrontation produce that, overall, it highlights both as their predecessors. One of these problems more acute, and very important in a title exclusively online as this, is the delay or layer of headings, that since the launch of the American version (October 2008) has led to the departure of several patches to a greater or lesser extent have corrected this and other small bugs.
Some of the seven large maps have been rescued from previous releases, including Crossroads, Frostfire and Desert Glory. If we do not have a game with the maximum number of players (up to 32 people in one battle), most have smaller variations, solving major problems of many titles with great scenery and few players heading: travel great distances without any action. The design of the maps is quite remarkable and will miss only one more, because despite having many alternative routes and meeting places, the number of scenarios seems to us somewhat reduced. The changes of light in the night to play versions with a more limited and devices tailored to those circumstances affecting the gameplay.
